We’ve arrived at the most valuable, best-loved topic of any trip. There’s no need to say too much about food. If you come to Istanbul and ask what this place is famous for, it may seem like you won’t get much of an answer. To some extent, we’re all right to think so. But Istanbul is a city that people from every city in the world, constantly and in a cycle, have set foot in hundreds of times, leaving ideas behind and taking ideas away. There are millions leaving Istanbul and millions coming to it, and among those millions you’ll find the most precious sweet and savory dishes alike. An idea may or may not be born here, but great effort goes into keeping it alive here, and in a city like this, I say you can’t leave without tasting certain things. In other words, this place is both the beginning and the end, welcoming the centuries. So come along to our food and drinks in Istanbul;

BURGER JOINTS

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Basta Street Food Bar

The burger place I’ve enjoyed eating at most in Istanbul is Basta Food.
The fact that the burger patty is lamb made the flavor a real delight for me.

Istanbul, Kadıköy: BOB – Best of Burger

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Brekkie Breakfast Club

One of the best croissant spots in Istanbul. The place gets extremely crowded on weekends. If you go with a reservation, you won’t have to wait in line. Otherwise, you may wait a long time; of course, there’s another way to skip the wait, which is to use the self-service section next to the cafe. That’s the section in the 3rd photo. Enjoy!

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Zabata Burger

Zabata nails the burger-and-fries combo perfectly.

Istanbul, Şişli: Nişantaşı, Nusret Burger

The Lokum Burger really has to be tasted.

Istanbul, Şişli: Ercan Burger

You could call it the best-value burger.

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: Kızılkayalar

Islak Hamburger, unlike regular burgers. Kızılkayalar is the best.

DESSERT SHOPS

Istanbul, Fatih: Kubbe-i Aşk

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Asuman

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: İnci Pastanesi Profiterole

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: Saray Muhallebicisi

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Suflör

Istanbul, Beşiktaş: Chocolate Sarayı

Istanbul, Fatih: Captain Candy

Captain is a place where you can buy candy by the kilo. Honestly, the highest-quality candy I’ve ever had was here.

Istanbul, Fatih: Gurmania – Berliner

Istanbul, Üsküdar: Tarihi Çınaraltı Çay Bahçesi/ Çengelköy Pastaneleri

Pick up some of the famous desserts from Çengelköy Pastaneleri and enjoy them right away at Tarihi Çınaraltı Çay Bahçesi, right on the water, with a deep-red glass of tea facing the Bosphorus.

Istanbul, Beylikdüzü: Özikizler Künefe

STREET FOOD

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Pizza 2Go

My favorite place for pizza by the slice. The current price is 7 lira a slice.

Istanbul, Kartal: Esentepe Apo Kokoreç

A street-cart kokoreç vendor. One of the best in Istanbul.

Istanbul, Beşiktaş: Midyeci Ahmet * Kokoreç-Mussels-Pizza

A different kind of pizza, topped with kokoreç and mussels. A must-try. The plain mussels are just standard.

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: Narmanlı Han Popcorn

Istanbul, Fatih: Eminönü Balık Ekmek

An old, indispensable Istanbul classic. First-timers absolutely have to try it.

Istanbul, Kartal: Atalar Abooov Kebap&Dürüm

Kebap&dürüm in what they call the Adana style. The flavor is top-notch. The very, very best dürüm I’ve had in Istanbul. The tray in the photo is called ‘muhtar’. Definitely worth a visit. Location: Atalar/Beyazköşk, Kartal. Getting there: 300 meters from the Atalar Marmaray stop.

Istanbul, Fatih: Grilled Simit

Istanbul, Beşiktaş: Unkapanı Pilavcısı

Istanbul, Şişli: Baruthane Pilavcısı

Istanbul, Fatih: Vefa Bozacısı

Istanbul, Fatih: Vefa Salepçisi

Istanbul, Fatih: Sevda Gazozcusu& Tarihi Leblebici

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Tadıtam Çiğköfteci

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: Chestnut Vendor

Istanbul, Beyoğlu: Sütlüce Uykuluk

Istanbul, Kadıköy: Lokmata

Istanbul, Üsküdar: Tea&Turkish Coffee Along the Bosphorus

Istanbul, Üsküdar: Çengelköy Ütü Tost

Istanbul, Üsküdar: Çengelköy Barto’s Burger

Istanbul, Pendik: Burak Kuru Fasulye / Gerdan Çorbası

ALCOHOL

I don’t know which kind of alcohol you like, but in Istanbul people enjoy their drinks both along the waterfront and in the lively spots of Beşiktaş and Kadıköy. The photos are below; I’ll leave the choice up to your mood.
